Bangor, Maine – Temperatures struggled to rise out of the 40’s as a damp late-spring cold snap enveloped Bangor Raceway on Sunday (June 19) but it was harness racing driver Aaron Hall who brought the sizzle to the drizzle as the action unfolded on the storied stretch of historic Bass Park.
Swept up in the momentum of a career-year season, Hall impacted the action throughout the entirety of Sunday’s ten-race performance, delivering two wins while factoring in the pari-mutuels in six out of his eight published starts.
An apparent master of all tempos, Hall’s conquests included the 35th career victory for the classy Brett McFarvrelous (McArdle) timed in 2:02.1 (the second slowest dash of the day) and a rollicking 1:56.4 score with Lodi Machette Man (Little Steven) later in the program as the track crew’s diligent efforts helped create conditions ideal for the fastest mile of the afternoon.
In other Bangor news, Dan Deslandes and Heath Campbell joined Aaron Hall to form the trio of torrid teamsters on Sunday with each doubling their pleasure in the win column while trainer Valerie Grondin trumped all conditioners, sending two from her roster down Victory Lane.
The three-year-old filly pacing division of the Maine Sire Stakes program provided the marquee attraction on Sunday with Pembroke Legacy (Baron Biltmore – Pembroke Oasis) nabbing top honors in the first $11,461 split.
Trained by Valerie Grondin for owner William Varney, the dual-staked sophomore who boasts championship status from last season’s Massachusetts Sire Stakes class, scored her first win of 2022 timed in an even-rated 2:00 with customary driver Heath Campbell controlling the lines.
Meanwhile, Um Erika (Western Maverick – Madonna Hanover) broke her maiden timed in 2:03 in the second $11,686 stakes division with Andrew Harrington delivering the goods for owner/trainer Marc Tardiff.
Maine Sire Stakes action returns to Bangor Raceway on Wednesday (June 22) as the three-year-old colt pacers make their second seasonal swing to the Queen City oval. Twin stakes splits worth $11,702 each will anchor a strong ten race mid-week performance scheduled to get underway starting at 3:00 p.m.
Bangor Raceway proudly features live harness racing every Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. (EDT) with the popular Sunday matinees getting underway at 12:15 p.m. Simulcast wagering is available Wednesday through Sunday from noon until 7:00 p.m.
