With the very long stretch at Harrah’s Hoosier Park, harness racing horses can come from anywhere and win a race and that’s what happened in Saturday’s (June 25) $22,000 Open Trot.
The 9th race feature got underway with Dunbar Hall (Sam Widger) grabbing the early lead and then by the :27 second first quarter, gave way to Whata Swan and driver Trace Tetrick.
Then on to the half mile maker where It’s A Herbie and driver Verlin Yoder came first-over and took command after the half mile in :55.
As they started down the stretch past the three-quarters in 1:23.2, it was It’s A Herbie in command, Whata Swan gaining ground but from out of the skies came Flagman and driver Rick Plano and they closed fast enough to beat It’s A Herbie by half a length in 1:51.2, What Swan was third.
FLAGMAN REPLAY
For Flagman, a five-year-old gelded son of Guccio, it was his ninth win of the year for trainer Rick Plano and owner Maryann Plano of Anderson, IN. He paid $13.40 to win.
