Holmes hot in Charlottetown trip

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The Holmes harness racing show was in full force Tuesday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Trainer Jeff Holmes shipping in from Pinette Raceway with his stable were ready to rock over the historic capital oval with three winners on the night including an upset in the $2,800 Open trot.

Sailor Blue (Armbro Barrister) provided that 24-1 shocker in the top trot in line to Ken Murphy as she swept up late to win in 1:59 over Windmeredontuworry (Driven by Corey MacPherson) and Incredible Two (Kenny Arsenault).

Holmes trains the seven-year-old for owners Cindy and Ambyr MacDonald and Yossi Martonovich.

SAILOR BLUE REPLAY

Holmes also scored wins with Black Elecktra (Shadow Play) in 1:56.1 for driver David Dowling and a second straight win for Victory Now (What The Hill), this time in 2:02.1 for driver Gilles Barrieau.

Melissa Rennie had a training double as T Ls Betty won in 1:58.2 and Ms Moyse was a 1:55.2 winner in the Prince Edward Island Open presented by IMP Solutions both with Adam Merner in the race bike.

Mike McGuigan scored a training and driving double with Speakingofshadow (Artspeak) becoming the first two-year-old pari-mutuel winner of the 2022 P.E.I. racing season after a 1:59.2 front-end score. Atlantic Star (Cheyenne Rei) was another McGuigan winner with a 16-length romp in 1:55.1 in the Special Olympics PEI Official Charity of the PEI Open Pace.

Share The Moment (Control The Moment) captured the $3,200 Fillies and Mares preferred pace in 1:54.1 for trainer Bo Ford and owners Arnold Myers, Luke Beck, Scott Bridges and A1 Stable. Race favourite Dreamfair Zenfire (Marc Campbell) was placed to second while Filly Forty Seven (MacPherson) was placed up to third after Acefortyfour Dome (Jason Hughes) finished second but was placed to sixth for interference at the five-eighths. Barrieau had four wins on the evening as he also won with Labero (2:00.2) for trainer Randy Van Meer and Pacific Delight (1:58.1) from the Ron Matheson barn.
