Narissa flies away with Group 1 dream

She has stamped herself as one of the top horsewomen in Queensland’s harness racing scene and Narissa McMullen proved just why at Albion Park tonight.

The 27-year-old has driven in excess of 1100 winners.

However, her victory in tonight’s Group 1 $54,080 Darrell Alexander Trotting Championship Final with her Majestic Son gelding Global Flight will be one of her most special wins to date.

It was her first Group 1 win as a trainer-driver and to top it all off she also owns Global Flight outright.

“I’m very emotional,” said McMullen.

“I never dreamed that when I bought this guy that he’d be in a Group 1 let alone win it.

“He’s such a cool little horse and kept trying.

“This is what you dream of, every year the Winter Carnival comes around and you want your horses to be a part of it so to get this win is very special.”

McMullen stepped away Global Flight safely from the standing start and the pair found the lead and remained there throughout the 2647m journey.

The quarters were 29.5, 30.5, 29.4 and 29.6 seconds, and were enough to hold off Majestic Harry and Justabitnoisy that finished second and third respectively.

GLOBAL FLIGHT REPLAY

McMullen purchased Global Flight from New Zealand two months ago and has now won four races with the six-year-old in five starts.
