Local Mr Feelgood filly Racy Roxy caused a major boilover in Saturday night’s Group 3 $31,768 South East Queensland Oaks at harness racing’s Albion Park track.

The Grant Dixon-prepared three-year-old had starting odds of $41!

A slick last 1200m of quarters clocked in 28.4, 26.7 and 27.9 favoured the peg-running horses as Racy Roxy was settled three-back the pegs for the majority of the feature.

“Obviously it was all about the draw and we got the right run and the luck,” said Dixon.

Race favourite Amore Vita settled back in the field from her second-row draw and driver Chris Alford made a mid-race move outside the leader as the tempo quickened.

Sydney filly Steno set the pace in front but could not hold out the fast-finishing Racy Roxy and Not To Be Denied who finished a head away in second after racing behind the leader.’

The mile rate was 1:54.5.

The upsets continued in the $31,768  Group 3 South East Derby where Sweet Lou gelding Cantfindabettorman was victorious at starting odds of $13.

In a carbon copy of the Oaks, the race favourite Leap To Fame ended up outside the leader, Dangerzone, and the winner came from behind the leader.

The quarters were 30.4, 30.1, 27.9 and 26.4 seconds, returning a mile rate of 1:54.6.

Cantfindabettorman is trained by Belinda McCarthy and driven by her husband Luke McCarthy.

“It’s hard to pick a full length when they are going that fast in front but he did it,” said McCarthy.

“We gave him a pass mark last start but he has progressively got better in his work and we got the luck tonight.

“He’ll be a major player next week.”

Cantfindabettorman will be aimed at the $106,070 Queensland Derby at Albion Park next Saturday while Racy Roxy will be nominated for the $106,070 Queensland Oaks.
