Enola (Resolve) knocked off two harness racing foes in the stretch to take a debut victory in leg 2B of the Prospect Series for two-year-old trotting fillies on Saturday (Jul. 16) at Georgian Downs.
Tyler Borth took the favoured filly to the top early form post five, and she sprinted to the quarter in :30.1. The filly took the first turn wide but kept a two-and-a-half-length advantage to the midway point in 1:03.1.
She struggled again on the second bend and was passed by Mass Envy (Jean Bernard Renaud) for the lead. Enola returned to her best gait on the backside and sat the pocket to three-quarters in 1:34.1. Borth waited for the stretch and fired the filly up the pylons to score in 2:04.3.
Mass Envy was a length adrift in second. Over Yonder (Stephen Byron) finished third. The winner returned $3.70.
ENOLA REPLAY
Enola was making her debut after four qualifying attempts. Douglas McCarthy of Holland Landing brought home the filly from the Ontario Select sale for $26,000. Heās enlisted Keith Jones to train the daughter of Ontario Sires Stakes Gold-winning mare Deweys Katie.
Also on the card, Windsun Tiara (American Ideal) bounced back from a disappointing debut to break her maiden in a contest for two-year-olds. She caught cover second-over, swung three-wide on the final turn, and surged to victory in the stretch for J. Bradley Harris.
Feelin Fancy (Betterthancheddar, Travis Henry) and Sweet Loving (Sweet Lou, Shawn Steacy) were second and third, respectively.
WINDSUN TIARA REPLAY
Trainer Murray Brethour co-owns and -bred Windsun Tiara with Windsun Farm of Uxbridge. The filly is out of Windsun Princess, who has produced three six-figure earners to date, including Ontario Sires Stakes Gold winner Windsun Glory.
Borth visited victory lane four times on the evening.
The next card at Georgian Downs contains three divisions of the Prospect Series leg 2B for two-year-old filly pacers. The Tuesday, Jul. 19 card begins at 7:15 p.m. EDT.
