Veteran gelding Euchred (Shadow Play) notched his 72nd career victory in a Winners-Over class romp at Inverness Raceway on Wednesday (Jul. 20).
Driver Redmond Doucet worked hard to push the pacer to the front before completing the opening quarter in :27.4. The field gave Euchred two single-file fractions of :56.4 and 1:26.3, and the gelding kicked away off the soft tempo to score by three lengths in 1:56.3.
Thunder Alley (Douglas MacQuarrie) gave chase in second. Betterthanbutter (Zach Mullins) finished third but was disqualified due to interfering with J Gs Fireball (Travis Maclean), who was promoted to show.
The win price was $4.30.
Walter Walker trains Euchred for local owner Kayla Walker. The gelding has earned $153,390 in 212 lifetime starts. It was his third win in seven tries this year.
Doucet led the driving colony on the seven-race day with a double.
The next card at Inverness Raceway is set for a 1:00 p.m. ADT start on Sunday, Jul. 24.
