She cast a shoe before the race but that could not stop harness racing sensation Soho Historia (Courage Under Fire) from winning the $106,070 Group 1 Queensland Oaks at Albion Park on Saturday (Jul. 23).

The filly has just “came out of the box” in the last three months remaining unbeaten in her six starts since joining the powerhouse stable of Emma Stewart.

Soho Historia showed a blistering turn of foot to come from near last to win the time-honoured classic getting a well-deserved salute from driver Mark Pitt.

“She lost a shoe in the warm up . . . it wasn’t he ideal lead up in a race like this but we got the job done,” said Pitt.

“For her to come so far back in the field, she has just got a phenomenal turn of speed.

“I thought she was a really good place hope turning for home but she really knuckled down and found the line.

“She has come from nowhere, she’s probably had a couple of little things leading up before they got her and they’ve gotten on top of those things and here she is today.”

Soho Historia recorded a mile rate of 1:55.3 for the 2138m feature.

Menangle-based filly Steno led the pack for most of the way and the sectionals were 30.8, 29.4, 27.5 and 28.2 seconds.

Race favourite Amore Vita finished more than a metre away in second while Steno was third.

Soho Historia is raced in partnership with Aaron Bain Racing and Summit Bloodstock, who race a number of horses across Australia including Spirit Of St Louis.

Aaron Bain trained this filly for three starts in South Australia before she joined Stewart’s stable.

“We couldn’t get her to win at Port Pirie and now she’s a Group 1 winner,” said Bain.

“To have a filly like this, she’s out of the box!”
