Fillies shine in Prospect Series

Clinton Raceway played host to two divisions of the Prospect Series for 2-year-old filly pacers. A large harness racing crowd gathered on track to take in racing action and enjoy dollar day at the Huron County oval.

Rookie filly pacers lined up behind the gate to contest the first division of the Prospect Series in race 4 on the 11-race card. Oh Gouda (Betterthancheddar)  put on a show for fans with a dominant victory.

After settling for the pocket trip, driver Mike Horner utilized Oh Gouda’s quick turn of foot to make the lead just past the three-quarter mile mark. The lead widened with every stride as Oh Gouda cruised to her maiden breaking victory in 2:00.4.

Oh Gouda has hit the board in two of her three lifetime starts and has banked $5,225.

In the second division on the afternoon, driver Travis Henry aggressively handled 2-year-old filly, Shine Brighter (Sunshine Beach), off the gate to get to the early lead.

Race favourite, Shes Truckin Now, offered a backstretch challenge but was turned away by leader Shine Brighter. Late closers, Face the Shadow and Autumns Passion closed the distance as the field approached the wire, however, Shine Brighter again proved to be up to the task to capture the $7,100 event.

The Robert McInstosh trainee captured her first career victory after two attempts in Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroot action, bringing her career earnings to $3,550.

Clinton Raceway is back in action on Sunday, August 7th for the 7th Annual Vic Hayter Memorial Trot race day.

The $15,000 Vic Hayter Memorial Trot welcomes top preferred trotters from around the province. The annual event is in memory of the former Stratford hotelier Vic Hayter, who was a big part of his community.

The day offers a $25 Roast Beef Dinner (Following the races), Face painting and Balloon Animals for our young fans. A prize raffle and 50/50 raffle will take place at the track all in support of the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society.
