$160,000 KY Championship Series at Red Mile

The Kentucky Championship Series for two and three-year-old harness racing trotters and pacers continued Tuesday afternoon (August 2) at the Red Mile.

There was two $80,000 divisions Tuesday. The 7th race featured the first leg for two-year-old pacing fillies and the race belonged to Strong Poison (Always B Miki) and driver Yannick Gingras.

Caviart Leeloo and driver Tim Tetrick were the first on the lead with Strong Poison sitting on their back to the first quarter in :27.1. Gingras pulled on the right line and came after Caviart Leeloo and was not able to get to the lead until the half mile in :55.

Strong Poison, a 17-1 longshot, held the field at bay as they passed the three-quarters in 1:23.1. Then in the stretch it was coasting to the wire for Strong Poison with a two-length triumph in 1:50.2. Twin B Joe Fresh (Dexter Dunn) was second with Caviart Marcella (Andy McCarthy) third.

STRONG POISON REPLAY

It was a lifetime mark for Strong Poison and her second win in four lifetime starts that lifted her earnings total to $44,000. She is trained by Ron Burke and co-owned by Burke Racing Stable, LLC, J&T Silva Stables, LLC, Knox Services, Inc. and Beasty, LLC. She paid $37.62 to win.

In the 8th race, Eternal Lee (Southwind Frank) captured the first leg of the Kentucky Championship Series for three-year-old trotting fillies.

Adore Me (David Miller) was first on the lead with Grandeur (Dexter Dunn) grabbing the two-hole seat to the first quarter in :27.3.

Dunn then moved Grandeur to the front, and she cut the mile to the half in :55.2. Heading down the backstretch, Date Night and driver Andy Miller came charging first-up to get into second place and following the outside flow second-up was Eternal Lee and driver Andy McCarthy. They passed the three-quarters in 1:23.3.

At the top of the stretch, Date Night was in front, but then came Eternal Lee and those two duked it out to the wire with Eternal Lee winning by a neck in 1:51.2. Disclosure (Tim Tetrick) was third.

ETERNAL LEE REPLAY

It was a lifetime mark for Eternal Lee and her third win on the season for trainer Chris Ryder. She was bred and is owned by Murray Ferguson, Jr. of Ontario and paid $12.00 to win. She is four-for-13 with $210,148 earned.
