Pop N Like Pez (Custard The Dragon) needed only one start to visit the winner’s circle as he won his debut at Century Downs on Friday (Aug. 5).
The colt pocketed up under orders from Tyler Redwood and swooped to the front in the third panel. He led his fellow two-year-olds home to score in 1:59. He denied Tin Can Timmy (David Kelly) a complete last-to-first sweep by three-quarters of a length. Iris Seelster (Nathan Sobey) closed for third.
POP N LIKE PEZ REPLAY
Pop N Like Pez was a $16,000 ASHA Yearling Sale purchase for Donna Wyse and David Lamont of Rockyview and Glen Henderson of Okotoks. He is out of Art Major mare Artists Rendition and a full brother to multiple-time stakes winner Custard Smoothie. Lamont trains Pop N Like Pez.
Century Downs will hold eliminations for the Gold and Illa Rumpel Memorial and the Ralph Klein Memorial during its next card on Saturday, Aug. 6.
