SUMMERSIDE, PE – Horse races are measured in inches but that is all it took for Bettim Again (Malicious) to nose out Screen Test in the Ron MacArthur Memorial Pace that was the afternoon harness racing feature Sunday at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
David ‘The Red Rocket’ Dowling was in the seat behind Bettim Again for his fifth win of the day and 24th of the season in Summerside to end up one win back in the driver’s standings behind Ken Murphy.
In the $3,200 featured pace the Jeff Lilley trained Bettim Again hit the quarter on top in 28.1 then released Screen Test (Corey MacPherson) to the lead before the 58.3 half-mile marker. Three-quarters were reached in 1:27.4 then Bettim Again began his charge up the passing lane in the stretch drive to win by a whisker in 1:56 over Screen Test with Bugsy Maguire (Damian MacLellan) finishing third.
Jeff Lilley shares ownership with Blair MacLauchlan of Charlottetown and Ian MacDonald of Lower Sackville, N.S. Bettim Again paid $5.60 to win.
Driver Dowling and trainer Lilley teamed up earlier on the card as Ubettimagoodone was a neck winner in 1:58 in race 8. The Springvale driver’s other wins were with Lights Out (2:01) for trainer Blaine McKenna and with the Earl Watts trained duo of Starship Glyde (1:58.1) and Howmac Agustus (1:59.2).
Jaycob Sweet made two trips to the winner’s circle as a trainer-driver scoring with Oakrock Eldorado (2:00.3) and Cinder Angelina (2:00.1).
