Leading Trotting Sire: Creatine | 2 Winners: Ellatine, Hot To Trot
Leading Pacing Broodmare Sire: Courage Under Fire | 3 Winners: Fire Dancer, Freezer Bay, Sisters Delight
Leading Trotting Broodmare Sire: Sundon | 4 Winners: Fighting Fire, The Royal Gamble, Hot To Trot, Bangkok Betty
Leading Breeder: Woodlands Stud NZ
A huge weekend for the countries leading breeder with three winners coming from Alexandra Park (2) and Addington Raceway.
The Bizzness (Sweet Lou ā Bizzie Girl) got the job done at his eighth race day start for Brent Mangos and an elite band of owners that include the likes of Sir Peter Vela and leading Australasian jockey, James McDonald.
THE BIZZNESS REPLAY
The three-year-old son of Sweet Lou is the 10th foal from the In The Pocket mare Bizzie Girl. She is the dam of Group 2 winner, Eliza Dushku (Bettorās Delight), and the grand dam of 2021 Australian 2YO Filly of the Year in Encipher (Captaintreacherous). Encipher did what very few South Australian pacers have managed in recent years in traveling north and winning a Group One in Victoria against the best in her class when she took out the Breeders Crown last year.
The Woodlands flavour extended to the second and third place getters behind The Bizzness with former stud principal Charles Roberts and his estate breeding the second and third place getters Lincoln River (Bettorās Delight) and No Added Sugar (Sweet Lou) also.
Kahlua Flybye (Bettorās Delight ā Ideal Flybye) returned to Alexandra Park in style by beating a handy field of two-year-olds for her third win this season at the āribbon of lightā.
KAHLUA FLYBYE REPLAY
The daughter of Bettorās Delight was placed in the G2 Delightful Lady Classic at her last start back in March and becomes the second winner for her American Ideal dam. Of the five foals bred from the mare, Kahlua Flybye is the only one bred by Woodlands Stud with the mare owned by the Bublitz family whose association with the breed extends four generations to Able Bye Bye mare, Bye Bye Cathy (1974).
Magic Four (Bettorās Delight ā Caribbean Blue) also resumed in style having been unsighted for six months after a busy summer in the North Island that saw him pick up the listed Harness Millions 3YO final. It was his first start in the South Island for his relatively new trainers in Robert & Jenna Dunn whom he had one start for prior to his spell.
MAGIC FOUR REPLAY
He is the fifth foal from the unraced Mach Three mare Caribbean Blue who is bred on the same cross as the mighty Somebeachsomehwere being out of a Beach Towel mare in Indigo Beach. The blood runs deep being herself a daughter of Broodmare of Excellence winner and two-time NZ Broodmare of the Year in Interchange making Indigo Beach a half-sister to the mighty Elsu (Falcon Seelster) and three quarter in blood to Copper Beach (Beach Towel).
Woodlands Stud had further success with place getters including Copy That (American Ideal), and the three Sweet Lou runners in Forever Me, Watermelon Sugar, and No Added Sugar.
17: The number of breeders in the ownership of winners from the 29 races around the country last week in New Zealand.
15: The number foal in which Cruise Liner (Love You) was from his super-producing dam, Galleons Dream (Chiola Hanover ā Catherine The Great).
Galleons Dream was 20 years young when producing the now two-race winner who took out the last on the card at Alexandra Park.
Her first foal 21 years ago produced the 2008 Interdominion Trotting Grand Final winner in Galleons Sunset (Sundon).
She was Ā¾ of a length away from having the unique distinction of producing three 2YO Yearling Sales finals winners with daughter Kathy Galleon (Sundon) and The Ultimate Galleon (Dream Vacation) winning the listed feature. Gunners Coin (Muscle Hill) nearly completed the trifecta at just his first race day start for Michael House.
She has a 16th and 17th foal waiting in the wings and looking to continue the family legacy of winning trotting features.
13: The number of live foals produced by Christian Cullen in his final season at stud in which he produced a foal crop (2016).
With her win at Oamaru on Sunday, Judgement Bay, who is from the final crop of our greatest colonial sire became his 2795th race win in New Zealand.
Interestingly Judgement Bay is the combination of arguably two our greatest local stallions in recent times being out of Chiller Bay, a daughter of Courage Under Fire.
The interesting cross is the only one of its kind in New Zealand and possibly the world. It makes the mare two by three to In The Pocket which is inbred by anyoneās calculations.
2: The number of race day wins super producing mare Nowās The Moment (Yankee Jolter) is shy of reaching her century for wins from her progeny.
My Moments Now (Andover Hall) won her 10th race day start on Friday night at Addington and becomes the third in double figures joining Moment Of Truth (Sundon) and multiple G1 winner, Oscar Bonavena (Majestic Son).
My Moments Now is the 13th and final foal from her dam however between her and the Regan Todd-trained Oscar Bonavena, the century could easily be eclipsed this season which would put her in an elite group of producing dams.
0: The number of classic crosses producing winners from the 29 races over the week. It marks the second week running in which no two-sire x broodmare sire crosses were the same in producing winners showing our genetic pool is far more diverse than often given credit for.
1: The number of siring quinellas from the last week of racing with Majestic Son producing Bangkok Betty and Whose Queen to return a spicy $516.80 for anyone who had the pair on a ticket in the second at Alexandra Park.
