Lightly raced Muscle Mass colt The Locomotive stepped up to win his second Group 1 at harness racing’s Menangle track on Saturday night (Aug.27).
And that will not be the last according to reinsman Nathan Jack!
The Locomotive won the inaugural $50,000 Nutrien Equine Two-Year-Old Mixed Sex Trot Final beating his rivals by more than 18m.
“He’s just a ripper . . . all he knows is to trot,” said Jack.
“He’s a quality horse and this won’t be the only big race he wins.”
Having won his previous two starts including the Group 1 Home Grown Classic, The Locomotive was sent out as the $1.33 favourite for the feature.
From barrier six, Jack placed the public elect in front and rolled through the quarters in 33, 30.1, 29.2 and 28.9 seconds.
Victorian-trained trotters filled the trifecta with Stevie Gee and Mipersonaljet filling the placings in a mile rate of 2:03.1.
THE LOCOMOTIVE REPLAY
“He had a good trip in front,” said Jack.
“The Breeders Crown and Sires are coming up next and I believe he will be more than competitive.”
Trained by Wayne Potter, who now boasts three Group 1 wins, The Locomotive has now had four starts for three wins.
A $60,000 yearling purchase, The Locomotive is out of the multiple Group 1-winning mare La Coocaracha.
He is the 13th foal to race out of the mare making him a sibling to Dance Craze, La Grange and Mataderos.
