Euchred (Shadow Play) returned to Inverness Raceway on Wednesday (Aug. 31) after a three-start stint in P.E.I. and captured the track’s Winners-Over harness racing pace.
The 2/5 favourite swooped in from the outside for Redmond Doucet and settled onto the lead before passing the quarter-mile marker in :29.1. The gelding paced a quick second panel, hitting the half in :57.3, but stole a breather to three-quarters in 1:27.3.
Rockemsockem Scott (John Kennedy) approached from the first-over position as the field entered the final quarter, but Euchred hit the gas as they spun for home. The leader kept Rockemsockem Scott and pocket-sitter Eastcoast Invader (Travis Maclean) at bay as he completed the victory in 1:57.1.
The latter two dead-heated for place.
EUCHRED REPLAY
Euchred has visited the winner’s circle 74 times in 219 starts. The 10-year-old Walter Walker trainee has now earned $155,920. Local resident Kayla Walker owns the gelding.
Inverness Raceway will resume racing on Sunday, Sep. 4.
