CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Trotting Thursdays continue this week with the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for two and three-year-old harness racing trotters at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The oldest Standardbred stakes race in Canada, the P.E.I. Colt Stakes celebrates its 88th anniversary this year with the trotters headlining Thursday’s 13-dash program with a 6 P.M. start time.
Up Helly Aa (Armbro Barrister) tasted defeat his last two starts after reeling off a 14-race win streak and gets post 2 as the early favourite in the lone $7,500 P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old trotting colt division in race 10. Ken MacDonald drives the Clare MacDonald trainee for owner Riley Farms Ltd., of Summerside.
Along For The Ride (Merchandiser) is the top choice in her $7,500 P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old filly trot division in race 3 for driver Ambyr Campbell, trainer Brian MacPhee and owner Ambrose Laybolt of Morell.
Race 1 has a $7,500 sophomore filly trot as Baskin Robin (Tad The Stud) looks to break her maiden with Ken Murphy in the bike for John Clarey of Montague from post 4.
The lone two-year-old trotting colt division carries a $9,060 purse in race 6 as the undefeated Irish Ray (Muscle Through It) leaves from post 5 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owner Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston.
Race 7 is the Krown Rustproofing pace with Miss Sangria (Royal Mattjesty) the top choice in the field of eight under the command of driver Corey MacPherson for trainer Ron Gass from post 5.
A special non-wagering event will take place at 5:45 with a trio of two-year-old trotting fillies in their $9,060 P.E.I. Colt Stakes division. Track record holder Camco Erin (My Mvp) has the rail for trainer-driver Mike McGuigan and owner Blue Diamond Racing of Emyvale.
