Harness racing breeder Jack Stockton has Wingate Farm up and running.
Having taken over the operation of Yirribee Pacing Stud in Wagga Wagga New South Wales, the 38-year-old has been hands on with his rebranded breeding nursery.
“We’ve been fully operational since last Thursday,” said Stockton.
“It’s been good, I’ve been learning the ropes and the run of the farm.”
Even though Stockton has just jumped into this role, work has been happening behind the scenes in preparation for the breeding season.
“Our numbers are really good and I’m happy with how they are looking,” he said.
“The Breed NSW incentive is working really well for our stallions Tintin In America and Be Happy Mach being both well received.”
Alongside these stallions, Wingate Farm also stands Lennytheshark, Warrawee Needy and frozen semen is available for Fear The Dragon.
It has been a good week on track for Flare Up (Warrawee Needy) winning a heat of the NSW Breeders Challenge at Tamworth on Thursday.
FLARE UP REPLAY
“Flare Up was born, raised and sold through this farm,” said Stockton.
“It’s been a good week for Tintin In America too with Mahomes making it six straight at Bathurst on Wednesday and then Teddy Disco was just nutted on the line by Leap To Fame in track record time at Tamworth and Tims A Trooper, another Tintin, did well to finish third in that Breeders Challenge heat.”
Not only is Stockton acquiring a strong breed with the stallions he stands, the horseman has also invested in broodmares as well.
“We’re getting some nice broodmares including Dancing Diamonds, the dam of Our Princess Tiffany, who is in foal to Art Major,” said Stockton.
“We also have Minnie Moose who is in foal to Downbytheseaside and her first foal is Funatthebeach who is racing in the U.S. and has earnings just a tick under $1million.
“Then there is the Christian Cullen mare O Baby who is in foal to Bettor’s Delight.
“All the foals will go through the sales.
“I’m breeding 27 of my own mares this year.
“We also have 27 yearlings for the Nutrien Sales too.”
To showcase Wingate Farm, Stockton is having an open day on Sunday September 18.
“We’ll parade our stallions and have a seminar on breeding with John Coffey from 1pm,” said Stockton.
“We will provide lunch and drinks and welcome everyone to come along.”
