Mach Steady (Mach Three) put last week’s nightmare trip behind him and went coast-to-coast in the Open Handicap at Fraser Downs on Wednesday (Sep. 21).
He marched straight to the lead from post five, setting opening panels of :26.4 and :57. Harness racing driver John Abbott looked to peel away in the third fracion, opening up by two but losing that cushion by three-quarters in 1:24.4.
The gelding responded to first-up pressure from the favoured Jewels Dragon (David McKellar) on the final turn and kicked away down the lane. Bad Moon Horizon (Rod Therres) made a late charge, but Mach Steady was already home to score in 1:53.3.
Bad Moon Horizon was three-quarters of a length short. Armycaptin Hanover (Kelly Hoerdt) circled for show.
MACH STEADY REPLAY
Mach Steady has won 22 of his 104 starts and has raked in $196,454 in earnings. Trainer Randy Rutledge co-owns and co-bred the eight-year-old with fellow Aldergrove resident Jennifer Dodsworth. The gelding has won two top-level dashes at Fraser this season. He finished ninth last week, owing to a disastrous trip.
Therres led the day with a grand slam on the nine-race program.
Fraser Downs will continue racing at 7:00 p.m. PDT on Thursday, Sep. 22.
