Farmington, Maine – Rock Diamonds N (Rocknroll Hanover-Dancing Diamonds) glistened in the late afternoon sunshine at Farmington Fair on Saturday (Sep. 24), charging through the stretch to post a flawless harness racing victory in the inaugural running of the $12,000 Ted J. Wing Memorial Invitational.
Returning to the scene of his track record performance, a 1:53.3 salvo fired in 2019, Rock Diamonds N sat patient along the pylons before pouncing to the half-length margin at the wire. The handsome bay stopped the clock in 1:57.2 with driver Ron Cushing executing the winning strategy.
The 9-year-old is a career winner of over $560,000, tallied his 43rd lifetime score while being conditioned by Heidi Gibbs for owners, Ron Cushing and Kevin Sywyk
Real Peace (Heath Campbell) claimed runner-up honors while Rocksapatriot (David Ingraham) rode the pylons to the show.
In other Farmington news, trainers Heidi Gibbs and Valerie Grondin will share leading conditioner honors for the 2022 season after each posted two wins on the closing day program. Their five total wins allowed them to vault over Marc Tardiff and Dakota Jackson, who were both tied for the top placing heading into the final performance.
Walter Case, Jr exits Farmington with the leading driver title on the strength of his ten winning miles contested over the weeklong meeting.
The Maine harness racing circuit now travels to the Cumberland Fairgrounds where racing will be conducted daily at 1:00 p.m. through Sunday, October 2nd.
