None Bettor A (Bettor’s Delight) and harness racing driver Dexter Dunn not only upset the field in the $250,000 MGM Aria Invitational Pace Saturday (Oct. 15) at Yonkers Raceway, but he also rewrote the world record for a race at 1 ¼ mile distance.
None Bettor A and Dunn at odds of 7-1, left quickly from post three in the 10th race co-feature and took early command of the race until This Is The Plan with Yannick Gingras came first-up at the quarter in :27.2 and took the lead.
Coming to the half mile marker, Leonidas A (Austin Siegelman) came first-over with American Courage (Matt Kakaley) second-over and they started up after This Is The Plan past the half mile in :56 and Leonidas A kept the pressure on This Is The Plan to the three-quarters in 1:23.2.
Going down the backside the final time, Kakaley took American Courage three-wide and Charlie May (Brett Miller) was four-wide at the mile in 1:51.2.
This Is The Plan still had some pace at the top of the stretch as None Bettor A and Dunn came after them. The two then battled it out to the wire with None Bettor A getting up by a head in 2:20.3. American Courage was third.
The time of the mile broke the world record, surpassing the 2:21.3 mark that was set at Colonial Downs 15 years ago in 2008.
