CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Irish Ray (Muscle Through It) went behind the gate for time number 11 Thursday night (Oct. 20) in the Home Hardware Maritime Breeders Stake and capped off his undefeated harness racing season at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Trainer Marc Campbell was in the driver’s seat behind Irish Ray as he controlled every split in the $12,550 event to win in 2:01.2 for owner Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston while increasing his bankroll to $69,322 for the final start of his unbeaten rookie year. Windemeregotmuscle (Driven by Jason Hughes) was second ahead of Gettin Salty (Corey MacPherson).
IRISH RAY REPLAY
Mile Hill Dream (Armbro Barrister) won the $7,580 Home Hardware Maritime Breeders three-year-old filly trot division in 2:05.2 in line to Adam Merner for trainer Paul Morrison ahead of Oceanview Cicero (MacPherson) and Majian Salsa (Jim Ripley). The filly is owned by John Breau of Shediac Cape, N.B.
Headline Howie (Armbro Barrister) provided a 9-1 upset in the $7,580 Home Hardware Maritime Breeders for three-year-old trotting colts winning in 2:00.1 over heavily favoured Up Helly Aa (Ken MacDonald) while Cadillac (Clare MacDonald) rounded out the $175.20 triactor. Mike McGuigan trains and drives Headline Howie for owner Jamie Whalen of Avondale.
Trainer Ron Matheson scored a double starting in race 1 with Southern Heart (Shadow Play, MacPherson) in 2:00.4 and followed up by Royaltywestho (Westwardho Hanover, Gilles Barrieau) in 1:59.1 in race 5.
Ladylike won the $3,000 pacing feature in race 11 as the Shadow Play mare stopped the clock in 1:55.4 for driver MacPherson and trainer Colin Johnson, who won earlier on the card with Steelmeatreasure (State Treasurer, Campbell) in 1:57.2.
Jessiejesorjessica (Justice Hall) was the best in the $2,800 Open trot with a 1:58.4 score for driver David Dowling, co-owner and conditioner Jennifer Doyle and co-owner Danny Birt of Earnscliffe.
