Dayton Open again goes to Penpaperpaige

DAYTON, OH –   Following a three-hole trip through the first three quarters of Hollywood Dayton’s Friday night featured harness racing mile, Penpaperpaige (Pet Rock) and driver Tyler Smith swept past their main adversaries to score an impressive 1:50.3 triumph, their second straight in the $22,000 Mares Open Pace.

Velocity Lady (Brady Galliers) set the pace stopping the teletimers in :26.1, :55.1 and 1:22.4 before Penpaperpaige left the pylons midway through the final bend, passed pocket sitter Marloe Hanover (Mitch Cushing) and wore down Velocity Lady in midstretch.

Longshot Princess Rougarou (Dan Noble) made a valiant effort to overcome Penpaperpaige in deep stretch, but the winner’s final :27.4 panel was sufficient to hold all challengers at bay.

Smith’s father Jeff trains Penpaperpaige for Shirley LeVin. The victory was just her third on the season but increased her 2022 earnings—racing exclusively in Ohio—to $83,300.  For her career, the mare has banked $545,50l1 on the strength of 19 wins, 17 place and 10 show finishes from 59 starts.
