Comprehensive victory in $150,000 2YO fillies final

It’s probably not something her harness racing rivals will relish hearing.

Yet Victorian reinsman Mark Pitt wasn’t joking when he suggested we have still not seen the best of the Emma Stewart-trained Major Delight (Bettor’s Delight) after her comprehensive victory in tonight’s (Oct. 29) $150,000 Breeders Challenge two-year-old fillies’ final.

Major Delight rated a slashing 1:50.3 to win tonight’s final, beating Sky Blu (Nathan Dawson) and short-priced favourite Peaceful (Jack Callaghan).

The filly, whose mother, Lady Euthenia won the same final in 2009, had the audacity to prick her ears as she hit the line, such was the ease of her win after sitting outside the leader for the entire journey.

“Actually, she didn’t handle that last bend,” grinned Pitt after their win.

“But one we straightened she really knuckled down and was still pricking her ears as we hit the line.

“She’ll be something special, for sure.

“She does have a good look around when she’s in front.

“But when everything clicks she’s really going to be something special to watch.

“She’s a lovely big filly who will be better again leading into three-year-old season.”

Pitt said Major Delight would now head home and Breeders Crown heats next Sunday at Maryborough.

Major Delight’s win was the second leg of a siring double for legendry stallion Bettors Delight, after Leap To Fame had won the earlier three-year-old colts Breeders Challenge feature.
