With the fastest closing quarter in harness racing’s Group 1 NSW Breeders Challenge Final last Saturday night (Oct. 29) connections of Bathurst pacer Better Be The Best (Shoobees Place) have mixed feelings.
The two-year-old finished second in the feature to Captains Knock and gave away the race when breaking gait at the start and ran his last 400m in 25.8 seconds.
The Nathan Turnbull-trained pacer made up considerable ground and was only two metres off the winner when they rated 1:52.9.
Better Be The Best has a record of six wins and a placing in nine starts and will most likely be aimed at the $100,000 Breeders Challenge Blue Final at Menangle on November 12.
He is currently the highest ranked horse in his category for that series.
The feature has doubled in prizemoney this year and there will be four $100,000 Blue finals for each juvenile age and sex.
