Emma Stewart secured an early training treble on Breeders Crown night (Nov. 19) at Tabcorp Park Melton when the queen of Australian harness racing, Ladies In Red (Mach Three) took out the G2 final for 4YO pacing mares.
In doing so, Ladies In Red etched her name further into folklore by becoming the first pacing female to capture all three Breeders Crown finals in the history of the series.
The champion race mare was forced to sit without cover outside her stablemate, Tough Tilly (Captaintreacherous), for the majority of the 2240m journey, which was delayed well over 40 minutes with gale force winds and torrential rain wreaking havoc on course.
With Tough Tilly getting away with soft sectionals throughout, she looked well placed to lower the colours of her stablemate for the fourth time in her career. However, as they entered the straight, it was Ladies In Red and David Moran who asserted their dominance and careered away to win as they liked.
The win in the G2 feature was career victory number 22 from 27 starts for the daughter of Mach Three and pushed her career earnings north of $900,000.
She paced the 2240m journey in 2:39.7 with the last mile run in 1:54.8.
