Harness racing stallion Father Patrick continued his domination of the two year old trotting ranks when his progeny finished in the top three in the $65,000 Group Two Lone Star Siresā Stakes Two Year Old Trotting Championship at Addington tonight (Nov. 25).
And it was the stallionās daughter High Energy (Father Patrick) that beat two of his sons, Confessional and Gold Bullion.
Co-trainer and driver Mark Purdon settled the filly sixth after the early rush.
With a lap to run he had her in the one one. Heading into the last bend High Energy was taken three wide and inside the last 250 had all her rivals covered and trotted down the middle of the track to beat Confessional (Father Patrick) by a length and a half with an unlucky Gold Bullion (Father Patrick) running on late for third.Ā
High Energyās time for the 1980 metres was 2-27.8 – a new New Zealand record. Tailored Elegance previously held the record at 2-28.4.Ā
HIGH ENERGY REPLAY
The win was High Energyās fourth in a row and it cements her top billing for next weekendās Group One $100,000 Ace of Hearts.
Purdon also has a rising two year old full sister to High Energy named High Step in the barn.
High Energyās dam High Gait (Muscles Yankee) won sixteen races ā eleven in Australia including the 2015 Group One Breeders Crown Two Year Old Fillies Final at Melton and the Victoria Oaks. She also won this race in 2015 when trained by Purdon and his then training partner Natalie Rasmussen.
High Energy is raced by the Breckon Farms Super Six Syndicate.
