Another exciting card of harness racing will be taking place at Century Mile just a few short days after they hosted the National Driving Championship. The Saturday evening (Nov. 26) program has $83,500 in purse money for only seven races,
but itās filled with top tier horses competing in Open and Preferred categories. And there are two eliminations for the Western Canada Pacing Derby for three-year-old colts and geldings each going for $13,500.
Race 5: Western Canada Pacing Derby Elimination #1
The morning line favourite at odds of 9-5 is Redstone Arsenal (Huntsville). He will be teaming up with Mike Hennessy who was one of two Western Canada representatives during the National Driver Championship. The young colt has won four of his five last starts. His previous start was his first-time racing at Century Mile, and it might just take some time to adjust to the mile oval.
Joe Rich (Custard The Dragon) will be heading into the race with 3-1 morning line odds and will look to continue his path through the stake circuit in western Canada. Heās raced in several of the major harness racing events in Alberta and British Columbia and has accumulated over $100,000 in earnings already. This will be his first start under trainer Jaimie Gray who will also be in charge of the reins on Saturday evening.
Race 6: Western Canada Derby Elimination #2
Ernesto Delacruz (Vertical Horizon) will look to continue his dominance in western Canada with his performance in the second elimination. He has already won the Mooreās Mile Breedersā Stake, the ABSS Maverick Final and the ABSS Super Finals this year. Jean Francois Gagne will be climbing aboard once again for the quest of another major finish.
One obstacle that stands in Ernsto Delacruzās way is Joe Dimagio (Custard The Dragon) who has been having success this year. His last start came about three weeks ago when he won the Robert Murphy Memorial Final and received the $50,000 cheque that came with it. Joe Dimagio has earned over $150,000 during his short racing career and will be looking to add to it Saturday.
Post time is at 8:15 PM eastern time on Saturday. All seven races are must-see harness racing.
