Cream Ridge, NJ – December 7, 2022 – Carol Beardsworth is our lucky winner of the $5,000 raffle, but this has a story to it!
When Covid first challenged the world and the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF) in March of 2020, we were overcome with concerns of the unknown. What we did know was that a huge challenge was about to change life for the horses at SRF. There was much fear surrounding how funds would be raised without fund raising events and opportunities. The future was masked in grey.
Sharing our fears, one of SRF’s friends happened to cross paths, of all places, at a Walmart, with the buyer of her farm in Kentucky. Long story shortened, she asked her, Carol, if she would help some of the horses SRF had in NJ where the expense was much greater. Within 10 days, enough time to get Coggins tests and health certificates completed, Joe Morris loaded his trailer with seven trotters and pacers. A week later another load walked right on and joined their friends in the bluegrass state. Donors and Joe helped with the cost! These horses and a few more have been enjoying well deserved dignity in big open fields of green all this time!
When we called Carol to share the news of her being our winner of $5,000, in her sweet British accent, she replied, “Oh my, well, you know it’s coming right back to you, Love!” How touching and especially lifting to have special people like her and others in the lives of these horses. Thanks to other wonderful people who supported the large rescue effort SRF had worked on just prior, these Standardbreds from that effort, were given back their lives.
SRF expresses its gratitude to everyone who supported this fund raiser. This is how lives are saved, horses are given back their dignity, and holiday smiles are made. Happy holidays!
