Sizzlen Hot Herbie (Here Comes Herbie), three weeks after an eight-length harness racing win, went coast-to-coast to score by open lengths again in the Preferred Handicap on Monday (Dec. 19) at The Raceway at The Western Fair District.
Natasha Day, who won the trackās Driversā Holiday Challenge on Sunday, put the eight-year-old on the lead at the quarter for the first time since his rookie year. He reached that station in :28.3, and Day slowed the tempo down to reach the half in :59.4.
Enchanted Mission (Tyler Borth) blazed the first-over trail for the field and applied pressure into the backstretch. Sizzlen Hot Herbie easily repelled that rival as he rumbled to three-quarters in 1:28.4 and opened up on the final turn. Heavy Dude E (Ryan Desroche) kept a three-length leash on the leader but could make no progress as Sizzlen Hot Herbie cruised to a 1:57.4 victory.
The former maintained his placing to the line, ending the contest three-and-a-half lengths adrift. Hot Fudge Sundae (Alfie Carroll) was nearly five further lengths back in third.
