The United States Attorney Southern District of New York today (Jan. 12) submitted to the Honorable Mary Kay Vyskocil, their recommendations for sentencing in their case against harness racing trainer Nicholas Surick for his participation in the federal horse doping scandal.
Surick pled guilty to multiple charges in the investigation.
The Government stated in their letter, āIn light of the singular circumstances relevant to this defendant, the Government respectfully submits that the Court should impose a sentence to some term of imprisonment, albeit one below the 72-month sentence recommended by Probation. The defendant participated in multiple serious crimes. That criminal conduct merits a significant sentence.ā
Sentencing of defendant Nicholas Surick is currently scheduled for January 19, 2023, at 2 PM.
