Twain Seelster passes away after falling in race

Harness racing pacer Twain Seelster (Bettors Delight) passed away after collapsing on the track in the final race at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Wednesday (Jan. 18).

The gelding was labouring while racing seventh in the second quarter and fell in front of the grandstand after driver Scott Coulter pulled him up. The judges called the race a no contest as the horse was still down as the field turned into the stretch. Coulter was uninjured.

The track’s Twitter account confirmed the horse passed away and was transferred to Equine Guelph to be examined.

He was an $85,000 yearling purchase at the London Selected Yearling Sale. The gelding won 13 of his 60 starts and earned $84,869. He was making his first start for Desmond Robinet after the Windsor resident claimed the gelding for $17,000 on Jan. 9.
