Vernon, NY – The “Open To The World” $500,000 Dr. Harry M. Zweig Memorial trot for 3-year-old harness racing trotters will be raced on Saturday, July 8 at Vernon Downs. The placement offers a “Big Track” opportunity for the top o’ the sophomore crop to launch into the most important month of their careers.
The Stanley Dancer (colt) and Del Miller (filly) Memorials are just a week later at The Meadowlands, then it’s on to the 98th Hambletonian with eliminations scheduled for July 29 and the $1 million open and $500,000 Oaks finals on Saturday, August 5.
The Zweig has long been an important stakes for the trotting elite, with Temporal Hanover (open) and Jiggy Jog S (filly) scoring wins in last year’s edition on their way to fame and riches over the course of their stakes seasons.
The Zweig card will be a matinee program with a 12:15 PM start over the historic Vernon oval. Details, including payment information and stakes conditions, are handled by and may be found on the Harness Horse Breeders of New York website.
