CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The wins kept rolling for harness racing driver Marc Campbell with a Saturday afternoon (Jan. 28) six-pack at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Orwell driver won over half of the 11-dash program at Red Shores to give him 16 wins so far in 2023 from just 30 drives. This is the beginning of the 14th straight season that Campbell has led the driving colony in Charlottetown.
Campbell teamed up with Premier Joy A (Somebeachsomewhere) in race 2 for the claiming gelding’s sixth straight victory, this time in 1:56.3 for trainer Colin Johnson. Campbell and Johnson came right back to win in race 3 with Truckem (All Bets Off) in 2:02.1 then The Lady Sheriff (Southwind Lynx) was the best in race 4 in 2:00.4 for trainer-driver Campbell, who also scored from his own barn with Plain Jane (Shadow Play, 1:59) in race 6. First Glance (Thinking Out Loud) made every call a winning one in race 8 in 1:58.1 for driver Campbell and trainer Jennifer Doyle then Ill Tell Me Ma (Ameripan Gigolo) completed the six-win day in race 9 in 2:00.2 for a training triple for Johnson.
Middleton Terror (Stonebridge Terror) captured the race 10 Preferred pace for a $3,300 purse in line to trainer David Dowling for owners Kingsley Walsh of Albany and Frank Balcom of Nova Scotia. It was the third straight win for Middletown Terror.
Blood Money (Driven by Campbell) was sent to the front in the top class through splits of 28.2, 57.4 and 1:28.1 with Middleton Terror sitting second. The race came down to the final quarter as the backfield tried their luck on the outside but a tripped-out Middleton Terror came charging at the wire to win by one-and-a-half lengths in 1:57.4. Stash It Away (Gilles Barrieau) was second ahead of Mantario (Jason Hughes).
