Mo’unga kicks another goal

The well bred harness racing gelding Mo’unga (Bettor’s Delight) made amends for his costly mistake on Friday when he hung on to win his second race in three starts at Cromwell today (Feb 26).

Two days ago on the same course he galloped at the winning post with a lap to run and after tacking onto the back of the field he finished in sixth place.

“Mark pulled the shorteners because he was going a bit rough,” trainer Regan Todd said.

Today driver Mark Hurrell took Mo’unga straight to the top and he held on to win narrowly by a neck from a charging Rightazz (Always B Miki).

Todd said Rolleston trainer Mark Purdon had the gelding early in his career.

“He had a year off after having a wind operation. There are no problems with that now, so far so good. It’s a bit of a day to day thing with him. It’s hard to tell how far he’ll go but it helped having a penalty free win today.”

MO’UNGA REPLAY

Mo’unga is out of O Baby (Christian Cullen) which won nine races including the 2011 Group One Sires Stakes Two Year Old Fillies Championship, Group One 2012 Nevele R Fillies Series Final, Group One Three Year Old Fillies Diamond and the Group One Queensland Oaks.

Hurrell also drove Maui (Peak) to win earlier in the today for Tinwald trainer David McCormick.
