If they were to present the award to the best pacing mare of the early harness racing season at Miami Valley Raceway, it would be a shoo-in that Alexa Skye (Somebeachsomewhere) would be wearing the crown.
On Thursday (March 16) Alexa Skye posted her fourth straight victory, capturing the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Open Handicap Pace for driver Trace Tetrick.
The 9th race feature saw 57-1 Sweet Western (Cameron McCown) go right to the lead from the rail, but by the opening quarter mile in :27, three other mares were all on the move.
Rose Run Vision (Brad Ferguson) was first to clear, followed by Im Offngone N (Trevor Smith) and then race favorite Alexa Skye, who cleared to the lead before the half mile in :55.3.
Also on the move was Grace Rocks (Chris Page) from sixth place, but they were unable to collar Alexa Skye and remained parked-out first-over from the half mile, down the backstretch, to the three-quarters in 1:23. In The Spotlight N (Tyler Smith grabbed the second-over cover.
Around the final turn, Grace Rocks had to settle into second along the pylons as Alexa Skye and Tetrick were up by two lengths by the top of the stretch and held that margin to the wire in 1:51.4. Grace Rocks was second with Wildcat Victoria (Dan Noble) closing for third place.

It was the fourth win in eight starts on the year for Alexa Skye. The six-year-old mare is trained by Virgil Morgan, Jr. for the Let It Ride Stables, Inc. and Bottom Line Racing, LLC. She paid $4.40 to win.
