The male harness racing horses began their Ontario-sired Spring Series with four divisions – two for each gait – on Friday (Apr. 7) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The series for three-year-olds with less than $30,000 in earnings last year began on Thursday with four divisions for fillies.
Like Chaos (Lookslikeachpndale) romped in the first trotting colt and gelding division in 1:58. He was four lengths the best in 1:58 over Sayonara Royalty (Bob McClure), who finished second. Jeronimo (Sylvain Filion) was third.
Like Chaos has now won three in a row – his first three career victories in his 14 starts. Bruce Richardson drives, trains, and co-owns the gelding with Joseph Coffey of Orangeville. The three-year-old has earned $35,140.
LIKE CHAOS REPLAY
Devils Arch (Archangel, Jody Jamieson) captured the second trotting group in similarly dominant fashion with a time of 1:57. Airborne (McClure) passed The Great Reset (Lorne House) late for place. The winner is two-for-13 lifetime with $28,120 in earnings. Courtney Bishop trains the gelding for Wendy Gualtieri of Dorchester, Mary Moody of London, and Jamieson.
DEVILS ARCH REPLAY
Nightime Dancer (Sunshine Beach, Jamieson) swept to the front in a second-quarter blitz and raced home to take the first pacing division in 1:54.1. Delightful Leader (Phil Hudon) followed him home to finish second. The Will To Play (Filion) was third.
NIGHTIME DANCER REPLAY
Rod Boyd trains Nightime Dancer for 1187422 Ontario Inc. The colt, who debuted in an Ontario Sires Stakes Gold last year, is now two-for-four lifetime with a perfect record this season. He has earned $29,764.
No Control (Control The Moment, Tyler Jones) charged past four opponents in deep-stretch and got up to win the final split for pacers in 1:54.1. He defeated Gandolf The Black (James MacDonald) by a length, who was a half-length clear of pacesetter Ikes Dream (Jamieson).
NO CONTROL REPLAY
It was the seasonal debut for No Control. He is now three-for-four lifetime with a bankroll of $27,420. Tan Micallef trains the gelding and co-owns him with Keira Liberte and Ian Clarke.
The second leg for colts and geldings is set for Friday, Apr. 14 with a $40,000A final eight days later.
