Vivid Wise As (9m Yankee Glide-Temple Blue Chip-Cantab Hall) used his now customary late rallying strategy to capture today’s (April 10) Gr. I Gran Premio Costa Azzurra at Turin in Italy (purse 154,000€, 1600 meters autostart, 13 starters) timed in 1.11.1kr with Matthieu Abrivard the pilot for Scuderia Bivans and trainer Alessandro Gocciadoro.
This was the 17th Groupe I victory for Vivid that now has career earnings of 2,796,788€. He left from post one as the 1.5/1 odds favorite and shortly after the start was sixth and blocked along the pegs as Zacon Gio (8m Ruty Grif-Mat Glade Font SM-Yankee Glide) made the top from post three after the first eighth for new trainer/driver Gocciadoro.
Zacon Gio, off at 3.8/1, led thereafter until it counted with 10.6/1 Capital Mail (5m Nad Al Sheba-Unicorna Golden-Varene) parked on the outer with Gabriele Gelormini driving.
Entering the lane this pair looked to be in charge until Vivid Wise As and Abrivard got free and gained maximum speed in the middle. As the line approached Vivid took off to win by nearly a length over Capital Mail with Zacon Gio gamely holding third. Blackflash Bar (6f Oropuro ar) was third for Santo Mollo over fifth finishing Bepi Bar (6m Donato Hanover) reined by Andrea Guzzinati.
