Harness racing trainer Travis Ellis sent out a trio of winners for owner Timothy Gordon at Century Downs on Friday (Apr. 28).
The strong Lisplaced (Lis Mara) won his third straight race since moving back to Century Downs to kick off the Ellis triple. The 12-year-old stepped up to a higher claiming level this time and earned his seventh victory of the season. Nathan Sobey steered the gelding to victory in 1:54.3. Lisplaced began the season racing at Cal Expo but shipped back to Century Downs with Ellis at the start of April, where he has since won all three races. He is 53-for-262 lifetime with a $276,867 bankroll.
LISPLACED REPLAY
Two To Ten (Mystery Chase, David Kelly) then landed a big upset, holding off A Bettor Moment (Logan Gillis) by a head in the fifth to score at 17-1 in 1:54. It was a big form turnaround for the five-year-old, who had finished seventh in his past four starts in a row. The win was also his first of the year in 12 tries. Ellis brought him back from Cal Expo at the start of April. The gelding has now won 12 of his 86 lifetime tries and has earned $54,017.
TWO TO TEN REPLAY
Ellisās Flying Officer (Riverboat King, Michael Hennessy) anchored the triple with a late-charging narrow victory in the seventh. The gelding flew three-wide from the back and caught Kootenay Lager (Gillis) at the line to win in 1:56.4. Flying Officer is five-for-10 this season, including a win in a $30,000 stake final at Cal Expo. He missed by a length-and-three-quarters last time in a similar closing effort. Flying Officer is a seven-year-old gelding with 18 victories and $117,248 in earnings from 116 career appearances.
FLYING OFFICER REPLAY
It was the first Ellis triple since January. The trainer spent time at Cal Expo before returning his operation to Alberta at the start of the Century Downs meet. He is 29-for-180 this year.
Stakes action starts at Century Downs on Saturday, Apr. 29 with two eliminations of the Bev Sears and Ed Tracey Memorials. The former is for four-year-old mares, and the latter is for four-year-old males. First post is 1:15 p.m. MDT.
