Last year, Tenouttaten (Cam’s Rocket) and Jewett each took a final of the Freshmen trotting ranks last year in Maryland. Both scored what would have been pari-mutuel upsets and heading into next week’s $85,000 final, both may be underdogs again, despite solid performances Tuesday night (May 9) at Rosecroft.
In Preliminary leg two, Jewett grabbed command, only to see Tenouttaten power out of the pocket to edge clear and win the $10,000 warm up leg for next week’s final. How Do You Goo was was third after a break at the start and may still be the betting favorite in the final next week.
“He was very good tonight. He got a good trip and capitalized on it,” Driver Jonathan Roberts said. The homebred of Trainer Kerry Welty is now 2-7 lifetime with earnings of $50,132.
Rivals Smooth Rocket (Cam’s Rocket) and Babes All In (Rustys All In) took Tuesday night preliminaries for Russell Foster and Jared Moyer in the Sophomore Colt and Gelding category.
Val’s Girl (Rusty’s For Real), chased all year last year by Spy’s Last Game, has a new potential rival in Morgan’s All In, however, she like all others, hasn’t passed Val’s Girl yet.
Val’s Girl is now a perfect 12-12, holding off Morgan’s All In to rein supreme headed into next week’s big money final. Roger Plante was at the lines as always for Trainer Steve LeBlanc.

Joyces Real Honey (Rusty’s For Real) will also be a factor in that Filly Final after taking her Preliminary Leg for Victor Kirby and Trainer Bryan Truitt.

Rounding out the Sires Stakes Legs was a thrilling finish to the Filly Trot as Call Me Goo (Googoo Gaagaa) got by Gollishness to win for a second straight week. Jonathan Roberts guided the winner for Trainer Jason Skinner.
