A Better Man (Betterthancheddar) became the first to take the Winners-Over throne at Northside Downs this season as the harness racing gelding won the top condition on opening day Saturday (May 13).
Pinned in the pocket turning for home in a four-horse vanguard, A Better Man rocketed up the rail to pass them all and capture the Winners-Over in 2:00 for John Kennedy. Kiss Me Im Irish (Adam Lynk) held of Gentry Seelster (Mark Pezzarello) for second.
A BETTER MAN REPLAY
A Better Man raced in the Winners Over for the second half of last year after Joseph Lewis of Sydney bought him in May. The gelding won the class three times in 2022 and made the final of the Governorās Cup. The seven-year-old, trained by Joseph Lewis, is now 18-for-112 lifetime with $88,604 in earnings.
A different driver and trainer won each of the seven races on opening day.
The track, located in North Sydney, N.S., will host racing every Saturday until Nov. 18. Its regular post time is 1:00 p.m. ADT.
