Bangor, Maine – Threes were definitely wild when the hands were dealt at Bangor Raceway on Sunday (5-14) as as two harness racing drivers and one trainer mounted three-pete performances during the Mothers’ Day card at the venerable Queen City oval.
Kevin Switzer, Jr continued his regionalized attack on the New England leaders boards with three top tallies at Bangor on Sunday after also mounting multiple win days at Plainridge Racecourse and First Tracks Cumberland throughout the week prior.
Switzer served notice early that Sunday would be another of his patented “fun days” as he ground first over forever with Daughtry (1:56.2, $14.60) to secure the third consecutive victory for the Cain MacKenzie trainee.
Switzer then turned his attention to a pair from the Russell Lanpher III roster, soaring gate to wire to secure a seasonal mark with Canbec Kingkazimir (1:58.3, $11.80) before battle planning an insistent first over assault as the bettor’s choice with Hula’s Boy (1:58.4, $2.80).

Bruce Ranger, yet another scorching hot New England driving icon, also joined the hit parade on Sunday, sending three entries smartly down Victory Lane, including PBR Street Gang (1.57.4, $2.40) a relative newcomer to his wife’s (Mary Ranger) roster. The recent Saratoga import won for fun while making his Bangor Raceway debut for new connections.
Ranger then went to work for the benefit of trainer Mark Harris, soaring first to last behind Rocksursocksoff (2:02, $36.60) to put a brand-new lifetime mark on the son of Pet Rock-Sexy Specs, before boldly marching in first over fashion with Rose Run Slider (1:59.2, $3.40) to grab top honors in the back-half of the late daily double.

Harris was the third Bangor battler to secure a terrific triple on Sunday when driver Aron Hall employed a strategic second-over trip to fire a thrilling last to first salvo with Cash Crazy Express (2:02.2, $4.60) who has now hit the board on all six of her seasonal starts.
Bangor Raceway will be dark this coming week before live harness racing resumes on May 24. Racing will then be featured on a twice a week schedule through the mid-summer season on Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m. (EDT) with the the popular Sunday matinees getting underway at 12:15 p.m.
