CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The fresh acquisition Roll Em (Time To Roll) by the Marc Campbell Stable rolls into town for a star-studded Saturday (May 20) evening Preferred Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 12-dash program gets underway at 6 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown with the $3,800 Preferred 1 Pace hitting the track in the evening finale.
Roll Em has drawn post 6 in the top event for trainer-driver Campbell and new owners Brady Doyle, Brent Campbell, Ryan MacLeod and Kent MacDonald. The five-year-old captured his Island qualifier in an impressive 1:56.2 with a :27 closing panel after shipping in from the Ron Burke stable in Pennsylvania. The pacer scored nine wins and banked $106,000 in 2022 while taking a record of 1:49.1 over Scioto Downs in Ohio.
Middleton Terror was the best in the Preferred class last week in 1:55.3 and gets post 1 Saturday for trainer-driver David Dowling as the morning line favourite. Matticulous GB (To be driven by Ken Murphy) won the class on May 6 and has been saddled with post 8 this week.
Cornwall owner Jody Sanderson has reacquired former James (Roach) MacGregor Gold Cup and Saucer consolation winner Avatar J from New York in partnership with trainer Darren Smith. Sanderson indicates plans to race the former top Free-For-Aller until the horse retires in Rocky Point. Gilles Barrieau will drive the winner of $313,000 from post 2.
Also in the field are Fern Hill General (Brodie MacPhee), Burn Out Hanover (Brady Sweet), Mr Rielly (Corey MacPherson) and Blood Money (Jason Hughes).
The Post Time Picks like Roll Em on top.
“Roll Em was excellent in the qualifier firing home in a snappy 27 seconds. Just a reminder he did have the fastest win and the most money earned on the page last season, so we won’t be shocked if he wins in his P.E.I. debut.”
Race 1 is the Happy Retirement Tempo Seelster pace with Kataparka the morning line favourite in the $2,700 field of seven. Adam Merner drives Kataparka from the Melissa Rennie barn for owners Jeffrey Campbell, Jeremy Hoffman, Lynn Livingstone and Kevin Teasdale.

Moonwriter was victorious in his latest start and has post 3 Monday from the Colin Johnson barn with Ken Murphy supplying his driving services. Screen Test (To be driven by Corey MacPherson) also drops from the Preferred 1 level and has post 2.
Woodmere Ideal Art is fresh off a qualifier with post 5 for driver David Dowling. The Articulator eight-year-old was a winner at the Preferred level his last start in Summerside on Oct. 12.
Post 4 has Plain Jane riding a three-race win streak for trainer-driver Marc Campbell.
The Backstretch Beat likes Soccer Hanover in the win position.
“Soccer Hanover should be getting back into racing shape now and draws away from that Preferred 1 crowd. Recorded eight wins in 2022 and we bet they notch another one today.”
The afternoon finale in race 9 will see Starship Glyde make his three-year-old debut from the Earl Watts stable at Windemere Farms in Springvale for owner Claude Poirier and driver Dowling. The Control The Moment three-year-old was a winner in 1:55.4 as a rookie pacer in 2022. His Monday rivals include Catchme If Lou Can (Campbell) and Montrose Hope (Wayne Hubbard).
