Lazarus N sires another on ‘Show Night’ down under

World champion shuttle stallion Lazarus N sired his 4th winner in Australia overnight with the Bernie Hewitt-trained Kick The Switch winning at the Dubbo Harness Racing Club.

It was a carnival atmosphere at the local raceway with the town of Dubbo in party mode celebrating Show Night at the trots. As it turned out, the carnival lights weren’t the only thing to light up the racetrack.

Kick The Switch was making his first race day appearance and like his superstar sire did way back in 2014, the two year old gelding made it a winning one.

Drawn in barrier three with Doug Hewitt aboard, the Wayne Loader bred and owned two-year-old was forced to sit parked for the majority of the 1720m journey.

Lazarus showed over the years he had the heart of a lion, and while it is still early days for his juveniles, the performance of Kick The Switch would indicate the dual hemisphere sire is passing the tenaciousness he was renowned for onto his progeny.

Hewitt never panicked despite being posted with the favourite throughout on the tight Dubbo track.

His charge relaxed beautifully and when asked for the ultimate effort in the straight, managed to reel the leader in with a fierce will to win. Sound familiar? Thought so.

Kick The Switch is out of the G2 placed Flight Path mare, Alphitonia.

While Alphitonia showed enough ability to win 12 and pace 1:54, it’s fair to say that there isn’t much pedigree behind her in the maternal lines.

She has produced Laurie Dee (A Rocknroll Dance) with her first foal who is the winner of four, while Kick The Switch is the second foal and only other of racing age.

As mentioned earlier, last night’s winner represents the 4th juvenile success for Lazarus in Australia from just 12 starters with 40 live foals produced in this current crop.

Just as he has done in North America, his progeny are well and truly establishing themselves as horses with plenty of promise.
