Harness racing driver Jim Devaux was just a passenger as his Belmont Major N (Art Major) had no trouble leading from start to finish in capturing the $17,000 Open-Handicap Pace Saturday (May 20) at Saratoga Raceway.
The 6th race feature saw Devaux leave from post three with Belmont Major N and easily made the lead before the opening quarter mile in :27.3. Pocket Of Terror A (Brett Beckwith) grabbed the two-hole trip.
Heading to the half mile, Uncle Jord A (Shawn Gray) popped out first-over as did Optical Illusion N (Chris Long) as they started up after pacesetter Belmont Major N. The half mile was reached in :57.1.
As they raced down the backstretch, Uncle Jord A was able to pass by Pocket Of Terror A and get the two-hole trip behind Belmont Major N while Optical Illusion N was left first-over at the three-quarters in 1:25.2.
Around the final turn and Belmont Major N still held the field at bay and held his lead all the way to the wire, winning by a half a length in 1:54.1. Uncle Jord A was second with Optical Illusion N third.
BELMONT MAJOR N REPLAY
It was the fourth win this year for Belmont Major N. The seven-year-old gelding who is trained by Amanda Kelley for the S & K Misfit Racing LLC. He paid $2.60 to win as the betting favorite.
