Connell Park, one of Canada’s true gems of a half-mile harness racing track will see its first action of 2023 in Woodstock, New Brunswick on Saturday, June 3rd.
Horse Racing New Brunswick will host the prestigious Dawn & Ted Bremner stakes. Named in honor of the two pioneers and ambassadors of racing for years in New Brunswick has attracted some of the Maritimes best, and fastest three-year-olds.
Situated in heart of the city of Woodstock, New Brunswick, with a population of approximately 6,000 people, it’s the fair like atmosphere that makes this track feel so special. Many of the people responsible for putting together the card behind the scenes, are volunteers, and work diligently to make sure every race card there is a memorable one. In the past, racing has only been held once or twice yearly, but this year it could see as many as ten race days with the closure of Exhibition Park Raceway.
Horse Racing New Brunswick found itself pivoting to hold racing in either Fredericton or Woodstock. While Fredericton made more sense geographically, it too faced an uncertain future for racing with plans of redevelopment at the location of the track in the works. Horse Racing New Brunswick was then forced to look at Woodstock as it’s home for 2023 and hopefully beyond. Which sets the stage for it’s first race card of the racing season at Connell Park, post time set for 1:00 P.M.
Draw for Saturday’s race card is Wednesday, and we will take an in depth look at the race card after the draw with a full race preview.
