Promising young reinsman Lleyton Green is one of the most consistent currently driving in the Sydney basin and proved his talent with a harness racing treble at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Tuesday.
Aged 19, Green shows patience and poise beyond his years which has established him as the number one driver for the McDowellās Allied Express Racing operation which provided all three winners on Tuesday – an afternoon topped by Green capturing his 150th career win aboard Bertie Jones.
Green was humble in his praise of the owners and trainers who have supported him, especially the McDowell family, stating that without them, he could not have achieved the results he has gained to date.
āMaking these milestones in such a competitive sport cannot happen unless you have people who believe in your ability like the McDowells do,ā said Green.
āI have been working with them for more than four years now and have learnt so much from Colin and the team.
āThey have afforded me a lot of opportunities for which I am thankful for, and I now drive the majority of their team which has opened up further opportunities.ā
Up and coming trotter Maximus Meridius kicked off Greenās winning day when he easily accounted for his opposition in the opening race.
The colt, who can sometimes have a mind of his own showed his true form by turning in a faultless display of trotting to win a heat of the Coutts Legal 2YO Trotters Foundation Series.
The youngster is by world champion trotting sire Sebastian K and was bred by the McDowells from their former good racemare Maximiser who won thirteen races and over $100,000 in stakes for them.
āHe is cool little trotter with high speed and massive motor,ā said Green.
āWhat he done on Tuesday is what he has shown us in the trials and at home.
āHe was wayward in his previous starts but now he has put it all together, hopefully he can scale greater heights.ā
Green has five drives tonight at Penrith, all of which are trained by Dean and Kerry McDowell and has singled out Zen Master as the best of them in race six.
The colt has been consistent of late, placing at his past five starts, his most recent being at Newcastle when he led and was just caught on the line.
