CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – On the heels of the fastest mile ever recorded in the month of May in Atlantic Canadian Harness Racing history, YS Mathis (Sportswriter) will make his move to the Saturday evening Preferred Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Capital oval has 12-dashes with a 6 P.M. opening post time on Saturday. The $3,800 Preferred Pace will hit the track in race 11 with a field of six topflight pacers.
YS Mathis was a winner in an incredible 1:51.4 in his latest on May 20 and will draw post 5 in the Preferred Pace for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owners Brady Doyle and Jacinta Campbell. The six-year-old has won both his outings so far this season.
Time To Dance was the winner at this level last week from the Campbell barn and Corey MacPherson picks up the drive this week from post 2.
Middleton Terror sports a win and two seconds in Preferred company for the Summer Meet and gets post 1 in line to trainer David Dowling.
Gilles Barrieau drives the post 3 entry Avatar J for trainer Darren Smith while Fern Hill General has post 4 for the combination of driver Brodie MacPhee and trainer Tom Weatherbie.
The outside post 6 will be held down by the fastest Free-Legged pacer in Atlantic Canadian history, Rollwithhottytoddy, who blazed the oval in 1:52.3 his last start without hopples. The win was two-fifths of a second off the overall record for a free-legged Atlantic bred held by Woodmere Alvin and Woodmere Topcat in 1:52.1. Jason Hughes will drive Rollwithhottytoddy this week from the Trevor Hicken barn.
The Post Time Picks like YS Mathis to get it all.
“We’ll sum up that last start by YS Mathis in one word: wow. He’s back in the same post and it will be green light go so if Campbell can boss it from the hop, it could be catch me if you can.”
The Saturday card also features the start of the Hillside Chevrolet Drive For Home Series in race 5 as well as the launch of the Red Shores All Star Handicapping Challenge.
