Metaki (Vertical Horizon) had the fastest late legs in the conditioned Fillies and Mares Preferred at Century Downs on Friday (Jun. 2), getting up to win by a neck.
The harness racing mare was sitting fifth at the cones for Brandon Campbell going to three-quarters and moved third-over entering the final turn. She found a split and unleashed a late spring and rallied by the top three to score in 1:54.1. She was home a neck faster than Blue Star Mystic (Dave Kelly) and three-quarters of a length clear of Saphire Blue (Jamie Gray).
METAKI REPLAY
The victory put Metaki into the six-digit earnings range, up to $101,373. Campbell trains the four-year-old, a 14-time winner in 43 career outings, for Jodi Loftus of Calgary.
Campbell drove a total of five winners on the 10-race card.
The next card at Century Downs features the finals of the Alberta Sires Stakes Diamond and Marksman. The former, for three-year-old fillies, is worth $56,600. The latter is for $59,600. First post is set for 1:15 p.m. MDT.
