Harness racing is also experiencing a new beginning in Italy.
Like every summer season and, as happens all over the world, even in the “beautiful country” the two-year-old colts and fillies have begun to take to the track for their qualifying tests and therefore, their first tastes for what is a real own racing track.
It is difficult to give a complete picture of what is currently the two-year qualifying season in Italy, this is because the activity is constantly evolving, day after day. Of course, Italy is not America and cannot claim to be compared to her, however, even in Italy there are some interesting two-year subjects, in fact, for reasons of space, we will not dwell on all the qualification tests carried out. it would be impossible, and it would take the space of a book, but we will make as detailed a journey as possible of what have been the most significant tests up to now.
Let’s leave aside any words that may seem superfluous and focus on the technical side of the qualifying tests that have been taking place in Italy since last May 5th.
The first to take to the track to compete in their trial were two females who, on the first possible day, immediately demonstrated that they have a good attitude and a good propensity to trot.
Specifically, these are two females or Fantasy Cap (Victor Gio) and Fashion Cap (Victor Gio). The two fillies, also breeding companions, were presented on the track in Follonica, in Tuscany, by Riccardo Pezzatini, a well-established professional from central Italy expressing the first in 1.18.2 and the second in 1.18.3 obviously over the distance of the mile.
Subsequently, after only a few days, some Italian colts took to the track in France, in Caen: the first of these was Filippo Wild (Varenne) capable of covering the double kilometer in 1.19.4 with Gaetan Ligeron in sulky. It was then the turn of Filadonna (Muscle Hill) to provide her own performance and Philippe Allaire’s pupil covered the double kilometer in 1.16.7 obviously all on the Caen track.
It is significant in addition to the Muscle Hill paternity is also the dam line of this filly. In fact, her dam is the French Sanawa, a mare of high classic caliber at the time of her competitive career and above all, a mare of great pedigree quality. In fact, her father is the French Jeanbat Du Vivier, a continuer of the Coktail Jet line, while her mother is a Himalayan, in turn a daughter of Ulf D’Ombree.
Another qualification carried out in France starring a two-year-old Italian female is that of Foxylady, a daughter of Trixton and Gilly LB, therefore sister of the multiple classic winner Callmethebreeze that Philippe Allaire presented covering the distance of the double kilometer in 1.20.5.
For logical reasons of space, it is not possible to give an overview for each two-year-old foal that has so far performed its test, also because, as previously written, the number of foals that have already performed the test increases every day in Italy. own proof of qualification. Therefore, wanting to take a quick general picture of those who have been the foals that have left a best impression in addition to those previously mentioned, we cannot fail to mention the name of Fragola Di No.
This is a filly bred by Francesco Nola, a small breeder from Northern Italy, who on this occasion did not want to sell the filly, but also tried his hand at the double role of owner. The reason why Mr. Nola decided to invest so much in this Strawberry Di No is very simple: she is a daughter of Nad Al Sheba, and she is the sister of the classic winners Dalia Di No and Estasi Di No.
She has already performed well in its first qualifying match held in Milan on 26 May for the training of Mauro Baroncini, one of the best Italian coaches for many years now. Fragola Di No did not have a great speed, in fact her chronometer recorded an average of 1.20.9 per kilometer, however this nice filly already has two records to her credit: she is the first daughter of Nad Al Sheba (Windsong’s Legacy) qualified in the current two-year-old season and was the first filly to qualify at the Milan Racecourse track this year.
Another colt capable of showing interesting things was Francoisecon Effe, a son of Infinitif and Suavidad, the latter a daughter of Prodigious, therefore a young horse in whose veins runs the classic Franco-American cross. For him an average per kilometer of 1.18.4 achieved in Follonica.
Finally, we close this quick examination of young foals, with some two-year-old horses presented by what is considered a true master of foals in Italy: Lorenzo Baldi.
The first of these is Face To Face, a son of Oropuro Bar and therefore the bloodline of Love You who in Bologna recorded a time of 1.18.3 kilometre. Together with Face To Face, still on the Bologna track but only a few days later, Lorenzo Baldi presented three other two-year-old young horses with a possible high-level competitive career.
The first of these was Firefox Dei Giovi, a daughter of Devious Man that for the qualifying test Lorenzo Baldi entrusted to one of the best Italian drivers: Marco Stefani. Firefox Dei Giovi recorded the time of 1.18.5, finishing ahead of the training companions that preceded it, i.e. Frivola Grif (Infinitif) finished in 1.18.7, and Fonte (Propulsion) finished further away in 1.21.0 proving to be a mare still immature above all mentally, but with a good future.
