Son of Captaintreacherous too tough first up

Progressive talent De Goey (Captaintreacherous) commenced his three-year-old harness racing preparation the best way possible when he took out the Sires Produce in Hobart on Sunday afternoon (Jun 18).

Driver Rohan Hillier positioned the Rohan Hadley prepared Captaintreacherous colt outside the leader at the 1500m.

“It was interesting early with Rohan (Hillier) nearly getting tipped out on the first turn,” said Hadley.

De Goey ($1.30 fav) raced up to the leader, Cee Tee Chelsea, on the final bend, with that duo racing clear from their rivals in the home straight, putting up a great battle with 2.3m in favour of De Goey at the finish.

They were some 15.7m clear of Gigi I Got This in third spot, in a mile rating of 2m 2.4s for 2090m.

“He still has a lot to learn.

“Rohan said when he pulled the plugs and got stuck into him he started to extend, and that the more racing we can get into him will be of benefit,” Hadley explained.

It was only the fourth career start for De Goey, who has a number of options in his own age group still to come.

“He will go to Launceston in three weeks and then three weeks after that there is a $20,000 three-year-old prelude of the Beautide,” Hadley said about the short-term plans.

De Goey is the only horse that Hadley has in his care.

It was a mixed day for favourite punters on the nine-race program.

Mickey Oh ($1.90 fav) recorded his ninth career win by a half-head over Demand Respect in the opening race.

Hajeet ($1.55 fav) was defeated by a short-half-head by former Victoria Rackemup Tigerpie in the open class event.

Talented filly Iylac Pakaria ($1.50 fav) also had to settle for a minor placing behind the longest-priced winner of the afternoon Cool Scooter at odds of $41, who was one of three winners for trainer Ben Yole.

Participants and harness racing fans well-received Sunday’s one-off afternoon fixture.
